This 8 channel audio installation was exhibited at Neighbour Gallery, Thiruvananthapuram in 2026 as a part of The Seeds Sprout Dreams exhibition. It is the result of a residency and is situated among the works of the cohort: Fahad Naveed, Layl Ali, Megan Arranagu Reddy, Shradha Devakota, and the works of Kaddukkas Collective.
This work engages with the web of connections centred around the song Om Shanti Om (1978) composed and produced by Calypso musician Lord Shorty. The title is a reference to a radio interview with Lord Shorty in which he discusses his inability to extract justice from the Indian film industry.
The lyrical material that appear within this song, and the elements of this song that appear in other songs are deconstructed and rendered via a multichannel piece to enter into dialogue with each other. Each channel presents a musical or lyrical transformation
produced through omissions of legal consent. The piece was replayed through popular “pre-loaded speakers” which bear the “Om” symbol on its fascia. These speakers are marketed by Saregama, a leading media corporation that owns a vast majority of Bollywood film music rights, including the track plagiarising Lord Shorty.
